I really would like to go back to school and get working on a degree. I dont know how I will do it but there has to be a way. I am starting to get burned out on dealing cards. I do want to stay in the gaming industry because I think it is a great industry to work in. I just want to work on the policing side of things. A gaming control agent would be an interesting job but in order to meet the minimum reqs you need to go get a BA in something that is related. So I am looking around at programs that they recomend and it would be cool to get a degree in ecomics. With a minor in finance. I dont know how I can accomplish this. Maybe there is a way to drop our income low enough that the state will pick up the costs of childcare and schooling and so forth. Maybe trisha and I can get it all done at the same time…. And we can live off of paper route money… It would be lean times for awhile but in 4 – 5 years we would be doing just fine financially again…. I dont know what to do just have to start something before its to late. Getting educated and then re-entering the workforce at the age of 30 seems like you would be a little bit on the late side. I am not getting any younger though so its time to figure something out. Any suggestions?

  1. hmmmm, well, your mom was older than 30 when she got her education, she waited to be sure you kids got what you needed while young, maybe that is what you have to do too, not a great thought for you but maybe the route you will need to go :(

In the mean time, you do come up with ideas that last only a short time, you said you have to keep looking, that is good :) , never settle, but remember…do not jump before you check it all out, move slow, talk with trish, consider the kids.

We are always behind you whatever you decide, we try to point out pit falls or alternatives, because we love you.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts & keep us posted :D

  4. Sometimes you may not need what is asked for or requested for a particular job. Can you take a course or two or even get a certificate in something that is relevant for your focus career? This might be just enough to get their interest or maybe find an “entry position” which aligns well with your focus career. Don’t worry about entering a work force at a certain age. Some employers might find an older person more attractive to hire since they usually have more maturity and are generally comfortable with who they are (less susceptible to peer group influence).
It’s a great idea, just set the fear aside and make some compromises and go for it!
Your mom will look after the kids! :)

  5. dirtbikenut typed up a post but may apparently didn’t hit the final “post” button….sigh….

it was suggesting a certificate program as an option. remember jeff A? he got an electronics certificate and it got him in on the ground floor and helped him move up in a big company. just one idea.

having a family and keeping everyone fed/clothed/sheltered can take alot of work so it may be that school may have to wait if it is to be a full time course load. you are never too old. I didn’t go to college until I was 30. and I am planning on going back soon. I am almost 43!

I wanted to go for a long time but choices I had made meant waiting until the time was right for my family. you may have opportunities sooner than I did but if you don’t I wouldn’t want you to think age has any bearing on being a student. honestly, if I had gone any sooner I would not have been as disciplined and focused.

ok, there is my two cents worth (or two bucks if you take inflation into account…LOL)

  6. LOL :) sorry i spoke so quickly, you haven’t responded so am guessing my advice is incorrect eh? LOL That’s all good,:) you have a good head on your shoulders, you will do what you have to in the way you want to, and in the end it will be right for you all :D
